Read – Mein Kampf
Today I finished reading “Mein Kampf” by Adolf Hitler
You can see the inklings of his descent in to a degenerate outlook of humanity when you read this. The theme runs throughout the two volumes and by the end of it you can basically say he hated Jews (and Marxism) with such vehemence that putting this man in any position of power would be bad policy to anybody he considered undesirable.
The book is so laden with propaganda it was exhausting just to wade through. If Mein Kampf were written by anyone today you would dismiss them as a crackpot, or if in a position of power, a dangerous crackpot. Hopefully, “steps would be taken.”
Hess was his editor but bloody hell, talk about run on sentences. I cannot imagine what the book was like before the edit.

Third month of compilers, Boolean logic, formal methods, operating systems.
Update: Also lost another 12 students.
Update #2: I am now the teaching assistant to the professor who teaches the compiler class. I am the voice of “the guy who writes commercial compilers” vs “the professor who writes compilers for academic purposes.”
Update #3: And I got to lead two round table discussions on compiler optimizations and code conversion best practices.

Poor in thought but not in deed
Financial poverty can be one of two states.
It can be one where your needs exceed supply.
This is true poverty.
The other is where your demand exceeds the supply.
This is the poverty of mind.
Give me dignity or give me death!
The opposite of poverty is dignity.
Dignity is choice.
Choice is having control over the decisions in our life.
And making our own decisions about how to live is freedom.
To be seen.
To count.
To matter.
We should strive to define our freedom not by how much wealth we amass but by how free we are to make our own choices.
Target of opportunity
Success pats you on the back in private.
Failure kicks you in the balls in public.

Focus on the future
My calendar: You have a 30 minute meeting in four hours.
My brain: Not really enough time to get fully focused on work. Might as well grab an early lunch and fire up a game until then.
We can laugh about it now
My friends laughed at me when I said I wanted to take some classes in improv comedy.
Well they aren’t laughing now.

This month I am studying “BSc Computer Science”
This is the 8th month of the 22 month sandwich course.
Second month of compilers, Boolean logic, formal methods and operating systems.
Update: Don’t teach a class on compilers if you don’t know much about compilers. Or… “How to disagree with your teacher over how to make a compiler.” I’ve designed and shipped a few commercial compilers over the years. I kind of know how these things work.
