Today I finished reading “The Art of Computer Programming #4A: Combinatorial Algorithms, Part 1” by Donald Ervin Knuth
I wrote the below note to myself when I first realised that Donald Knuth was about to publish volume 4.
Oh…
Yay!
Here we go again…
The title suggests that this will be a two-volume book.
So Knuth couldn’t just torture me with a fourth volume after a 20+ year interval.
No.
He had to release two new volumes.
But not two separate volumes with different subjects in each one.
Two volumes covering the same subject.
This is going to be a long hard slog.
Really Mr Knuth? Really!!?
Update:
Well here we are. Volume 4A in this epic saga all wrapped up.
I first start reading this about a day after it went on sale.
Every page read.
Every page annotated.
Every example carefully built in Ruby until my output agrees with Knuth’s.
I am tired. And a bit burnt out.
I look forward with Volume 4B with apprehension.
