This month I am studying “Lens reversal macro photography”
I want to spend a month playing around with my new point and shoot camera and this looks like a great class to actually try that out in. I can always pull out one of my Canon DSLRs if I need to do anything super-fancy.
It’s a non-credit community college course one night a week for four weeks.
Update: Logged 18 hours of study time between the eight hours of class time (2 hours per evening for 4 weeks) and an extra 10 hours of practice.

This month I am studying “Studio photography”
Two separate two-day workshops with a local photography studio.
Going back to my photography “roots” and getting back behind a camera for a month to try my hand at photography in the studio.
Not really my roots, because my roots are in electronics and software but photography has been one of those subjects that pops up every now and then in my life.
Update: Between the two workshops (four days total) and then just “getting out there and doing stuff” I logged 43 hours of supervised study and practice.

This month I am studying “Photographing landscapes”
Taking pictures of things that don’t move. I like this class. Though there is more hiking involved.
It is again, a 3-month course, but a different teacher. I spoke with her and she needs the money and I want the experience and knowledge. Going to be compressing it all down in to just a single month of one-on-one instruction instead of mucking about for three-months, one morning a week, part-time.
Update: We did urban environments too! I wasn’t expecting that.
Update #2: Four separate photography courses completed! Managed to compress a year’s worth of photography study in to a pleasant four months.

This month I am studying “Advanced portrait photography”
More portraits. Same teacher. I don’t think I will ever make a full-time living at doing portraits, but it is making me a better photographer overall. Hired teacher to teach me as a near full-time student. He gets $100/hr, I get a crash-course in studio and portrait photography.

This month I am studying “Foundations of portrait photography”
The one thing I’ve never done is actually learn how to take a good portrait photograph of a person. Same teacher as last time, made the same deal, teach me your three month course in a month full-time.
It is a 3-month, part-time in-person class, four hours a week, about 50 hours of instruction, give or take, in a group setting.
Update: Very enjoyable. Feel much more comfortable in the studio now.
Managed to log about 75 hours in the studio over the month.

This month I am studying “Foundations of photography”
Three month refresher course in photography because I haven’t done any serious photography since 1990. Just bought a new digital camera since they have started to rival film in some aspects.
I’ve got a Konica point-and-shoot with only a few controls on it. Doesn’t do a half-decent job for snapshots.
I’ve also picked up a traditional Canon EOS 30 because I am just more comfortable with film. I suspect Canon will eventually release a digital version once the sensors get good enough.
Update: After the first class I just hired the teacher privately to take me through the full three months of study one-on-one. Much more fun.
Update #2: Lots of fieldwork. I am liking this.

This month I am studying “The great photographers” and also “Female character drawing”
On-line study, with instructor lead discussions. I am combing this area of study with the female character drawing as the drawing class is too slow for my tastes.
Four, two hour sessions plus some self study for the photographers class. My 2nd month of “Female Character Drawing”

This month I am studying “Sport photography”
Got talking to the teacher of the foundations class (which I just wrapped up) and he recommended I try some high-speed photography which he teaches a class in. Specifically high-speed photography of sporting events.
This is a part-time workshop that lasts a fortnight.
The Tang-Soo Do karate class continues. Will wrap it up the end of this month in time for college to start again.

This month I am studying “Foundations of photography – night and low light”
Figured I’d goof off with some photography classes over the Summer break.
This is a four-week hands-on workshop.
Also teaching an intensive three days a week karate class to around 15 people from the college.
